Overcoming Writer's Block:

This online workshop will equip you with the skills needed to recognize writer's block and all other blockages that hinder growth and development in your life. Professor Carpenter explains that recognizing the problem is only part of the solution. You'll discover how to apply the word of God to conquer and defeat hindrances and blockages that affect your writing, thinking and performances.

Lesson Two
How to Create a Motion Picture Treatment for an Independent Filmmaker:

This online workshop will provide you with the differences between a treatment and a synopsis and how to use a treatment as an independent writer/producer. Professor Carpenter will provide you with a step by step account of the treatment in the film industry, based on his own personal experiences. Professor Carpenter believes experience is the best teacher: he brings his experience to this lecture as a Filmmaker, Born Again Believer, and an Educator. Plus a treatment checklist of all the ingredients for your treatment.

Introduction to Cinema:
You will never look at movies the same after taking “The Introduction To Cinema Workshop”. Professor Ron Carpenter brings a new perspective to film viewing. This course is taught as an apprenticeship. You will learn the language, aesthetics, styles of film appreciation. You will get a comprehensive overview of film making: lighting principles, camera composition, story structure, editing and audio. Professor Ron Carpenter believes this course is great for the film buff or independent film student who wants to get the most out of the learning experience. New films added each semester for the 10 session course. A lively question answer period follows each film screening.

Lesson Four
Show Business:
“Show Business” is 90% business and only 10% show. Sadly, most aspiring artist/entertainers think “Show Business” is 10% business and 90%show. This is not true. The business of “Show Business” will prepare those interested in the entertainment industry and those who are already in the entertainment industry. Students will learn the basic business skills needed to establish and maintain their careers in the entertainment industry. Students will also learn how to set up and operate a production company. Students will obtain the keys to succeeding in show business. In addition, students will learn how to prepare for rejection, set backs, and disappointments. Students will learn how to rebound after hindrances and continue on their path to success. This course will provide information, analysis, lecture, project situations, market plans, agents, unions, career info, touring, budgets, trades, contracts, business plans, promotions, problem solving and some legal aspects and much more.

Reading Styles:

Most people are taught to read for comprehension. This reading course goes beyond basic reading skills. Students will learn five basic reading styles. This course will help students with college reading assignments. Learn how to enjoy and appreciate the reading process.

Lesson Six
"JAZZ": Love and Literature of The Harlem Renaissance:
Pulitzer Prize -Winning Author Toni Morrison’s novel “Jazz” is the back story to this an intriguing course. Analysis and interpretations of Morrison’s writing invites the reader to participate in conversations around themes of passion, betrayal, and redemption. Jazz music artist such as: Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington and others invites the listener to engage in a conversation of participation. This course offers lively discussions about the novel, the lyrics, the blues, dazzling sounds and colorful favors of The Harlem Renaissance. Love languages are discussed in this course. The novel is a love story with a blues soundtrack. Students will discuss in small groups some of the following questions. Why do people cheat on their spouse? Why does love hurt? Why does love and pain contrast each other? Which is stronger love or pain? Does love really heal the hurt away? These and many other questions will be apart of our discussions around the themes of love, pain, passion and the blues. The Harlem Renaissance is the zenith of African American literature and music. The Harlem Renaissance has influenced the African Diaspora and the entire world with sounds of pain and passion. Un like, other courses about the Harlem Renaissance this course will cover the heroes, ordinary people and the political dynamics of The Harlem Renaissance which paved the way The Civil Right Movement.

Learn how to overcome obstacles, set backs, rejection, disappointments and hindrances in the community that you feel are holding you back from reaching your full potential. Learn how to overcome peer pressure. Learn how to accomplish your dreams. Learn how to boast your self esteem. Overcome identity crisis and much more. Before leading others you first must be a follower under a successful leader.

ELS- English as Second Language For Everyday Usage and Survival in America:
The purpose of this workshop is to assist English as Second Language students adjust to every day survival in America. Students will learn how to use the following: Telephone Books, Employment Applications, Housing Applications and Health Care Applications. In addition students will learn about the Public Transportation System and the Public Library in New York City. Students will discover where to get resources for daily living.
 
Plus, students will learn basic reading and writing skills for business purposes: Cover Letters, Resumes, Business Letters, Memos, Proposals and Business Etiquette.

Spanish Harlem During The Harlem Renaissance:

This course shall connect the past and present of the Latino political, social and cultural dynamics of Spanish Harlem past and present. Discover the Latino writers and poets of the Harlem Renaissance. Discover the role of Salsa Music and Afro Cuban Music during this evolution historic evolution.

Spanish Harlem During The Black Arts Movement:
Something powerful happened in Harlem in the 1970's! In the midst of the Civil Rights Movement. The Black and Latino artists came together during The "Black Arts Movement". Many called the "Black Arts Movement" the sequel to The "Harlem Renaissance". By the end of the 1970's. "Hip Hop" was born! By the year 2000 a bridge was built between Blacks and Latinos residents in Harlem. Many say Hip Hop brought a new generation of political conscious to the polls in New York City.

Lesson Twelve
Color Movies:
Why is it dangerous to allow others to define who you are? This course is a study of independent filmmakers from various cultures. It's a celebration of various cultures and expressions on film. What does Black culture, Latin culture, Asian culture, Native American culture, and Middle Eastern cultures have in common? We shall explore this question as we make connections while, studying our common interest and aspirations. How can we destroy myths and stereotypes with film? How do we perceive each other in the international film community?

Contemporary Latino Cinema:
Contemporary Latino Cinema is a course which takes a look at some of today's hottest independent films of the Latino experience. Many of the popular and not so popular films by Latino Filmmakers will be showcased in this course. There shall be a lively disscusion after each film screening.

Lesson Fourteen
The History of Black Cinema:
Independent film making in the black community is nothing new. Black Filmmakers were busy producing an industry without the help of Hollywood. Since the early 1900's, over 500 films were produced during the "Race Film. Era". Some of these early pioneers feature Oscar Micheaux, James Weldon Johnson, Bret Williams, The Lincoln Brothers, Spenser Williams and Richard Maurice just to mention a few. How far have Black films come since the "Black Arts Movement" of the 50's to 70's? Was the so called "Black Exploitation Era" of the 1970's really exploiting Black people? or providing an opportunity for artist? What impact did music videos have on Black images and creativity between the 1980's and 1990's? What direction are Black filmmakers moving toward today? Where shall we go from here? We shall examine the power of pictures and words. We shall analyze the symbolism, marketing, stereotypes of Black Flims, past and present. We shall explore films from various aspects of the African diaspora.

History of Black Americans On Television:
This course will take a look at the contributions Black Americans have made to the television industry. You will get a compressive overview of the roles of black males compared to black females past and present. What role did black images on television play in: Politics, Social Justice, Civil Rights and American Popular culture. In addition, to popular television shows. We shall study: Documentaries, Music Videos, TV Commercials, Broadcast News, Talk Shows and Cable television. What impact does the black Image have on television?
