Film/Video Workshops
Each of the following lectures are two hours; there will be a brief question and answer session after each lecture. Each student should bring pen and notebook. No audio/video recordings allowed. Please arrive on time. There are no refunds or exchanges for these workshops. Students may make up missed classes during next semester.
Screen writing: This very intense workshop will teach writers with the art of writing a narrative feature film. Students will learn how to make interpretations from language into the visual medium.
The Production Process: Students will obtain a comprehensive overview of the production process. A suggested prerequisite for producers and directors.
The Role of the Producer: A continuation of the study of producing motion pictures. Students will be given an in-depth chronological study of the developmental stages of production to the distribution of films/videos.
The Role of the Director: This workshop will provide students with the fundamentals of directing. Students will learn directorial communication skills between the camera, cast and crew.
Film/Video Lighting: This workshop will provide students with a historical account of lighting in photography and motion pictures. Students will learn the differences between film and video lighting. The focus of this workshop is on video lighting.
Camera Composition: Students will learn basic camera techniques for film and video cameras. Some aspects of this workshop include the camera and how it works with the directors, cast and crew while providing good material for the editor. Students will also learn in camera editing for low budget films.
Post Production Video: An introductory lecture for students providing facts and information about elementary editing and advanced editing for shorts and feature films. Students will learn various styles of documentary film making.
Post Production Audio: Students will learn how audio, music and sound effects work during a production. In addition, students will learn some of the legal aspects to audio work during post production, and how to use a soundtrack to earn funds for your budget.
Show Business: This is a very in-depth lecture about the music and motion picture industry. Show business is really 90% show and 10% business. Students will learn about rights, unions in the film industry, marketing, promotions, distribution and much more. This workshop is being offered this semester at a reduced price! This workshop builds on the skills taught in all the other workshops. It's a very intense workshop.
Documentary Filmmaking: The documentary narrative is created differently from the feature film narrative. Students will learn how photojournalism is a tool in the hands of any documentary filmmaker. In addition, students will learn the differences of the docu-drama from the documentary. Students will learn the different skills and techniques to capture and develop their documentary narratives. The photo story and audio story meet in the audience's perception in a manner that differs from feature filmmaking. This workshop provides documentary filmmakers with this insight.
